SYHS Girls Varsity Has a Matrix Flavor, Reaches CIF Semi-Finals

A shout out to South Bay Matrix FC Director of Coaching and AYSO United G2002 Coach Polo Aviles, who also runs the SYHS Girls Soccer Program and Head Coaches the Girls Varsity team. SYHS is loaded with South Bay Matrix/AYSO United players and staff. Coach Rene Venegas SBMatrix GK coach heads the Novice team, Coach Antonio Govea is the JV head coach and Coach Luis Sanchez Asst. Coach Varsity. The squad reached the CIF Semi-Finals of San Diego County, losing a heartbreaker to Escondido HS. The team captains for Coach Polo’s squad include Captain Isella Olivera, Melina Hernandez, Andrea Martinez and Monique Dominguez who play for G2002 South Bay AYSO United CSL team, and Analucia Rosales, who plays on the G2004 SB Matrix team this fall. So much for the theory that you have to play on a high-priced club soccer team to make a high school team, much less captain the squad. SYHS upended Southwest High in the CIF Quarter Finals. The CIF Semi-Finals were played on February 26.

These past three seasons San Ysidro Lady Cougars team has had an infusion of talented players from the G2002 United and G2004 Matrix team coached by the Romo brothers Hector & Frank as well as Polo and Nicole.

South Bay Matrix/AYSO United players are now starring on Varsity squads across the San Diego county.  Mar Vista High, Southwest, Bonita, Montgomery, University City, Eastlake, Olympian, San Ysidro and this years CIF Champions Grossmont High School.

ICYMI: G2002 Pacific SC South Bay is National Premier League (NPL) bound & looking for a few talented players to join them in the Spring

Congratulations to PSC South Bay G2002 in the U15 age group for making National Premier League (NPL) for the 2017 season. Our team is breaking into the NPL soccer scene.

The Southern California NPL serves as the National Premier Leagues (NPL) Division of the SouthCal Premier League. The SouthCal NPL Division is one of 19 leagues across the United States that are part of the NPL, which has been created to provide a national developmental platform with the highest level of competition in given geographic areas, and to elevate and change the competitive youth soccer landscape based upon fundamental principles in US Club Soccer’s 10-year vision. The champions of each NPL (including the SouthCal NPL) are awarded a spot in the US Club NPL National Finals.

This team is a five time league champion that has moved up the ranks. They won back to back Presidio League Championship as well as back to back San Diego Development Academy (SDDA) Championships. Fresh off their Coast Soccer League (CSL) Championship in the Silver Elite South bracket, our highly talented G2002 team has been accepted to participate in the prestige Southern California National Premier League and is seeking a few more talented players for its 2017 Spring Season. If you would like more information, or to schedule a tryout at a scheduled training session, please contact Coach Polo Aviles at (858) 336-8529 or email Coach Polo at sbmfcpoloaviles@gmail.com. This team has an impressive track record of success, including reaching the finals of the State Cup President’s Division in 2015 as a U13G team. The team finished first in 2016 CSL Silver Elite South U15G, Flight 1 U14G of the SDDA in Fall 2015, after winning first in Flight 2 SDDA in Fall 2014. Coach Polo is an experienced teacher of the game, someone who believes in player development and implements strategies necessary to meaningfully carry it out.

South Bay Matrix FC Partners with AYSO United

South Bay Matrix FC is proud to announce a collaboration with AYSO United that will enable South Bay’s highest caliber teams to participate in Coast Soccer League. AYSO United is the AYSO Competitive Club Soccer program Nation Wide.  AYSO United has boys and girls teams that compete across the US.  South Bay Matrix FC who want to play in Coast Soccer League (CSL) may do so by forming part of the Orange County hub.

“This is a huge step forward for our program,” said South Bay Matrix Executive Director Anthony Millican. “This partnership with our sister club in Orange county opens doors we never thought possible. We have teams that have been successful in San Diego, and now our best teams will have the opportunity to compete with the best in Coast Soccer League.”

Since AYSO United was founded 5 years ago as part of a third, elite Club-style tier to the AYSO organization, it has grown to involve boys and girls teams from across the country from Orange County in the west coast to NYC in the east coast. With the addition of South Bay Matrix, AYSO United will now extend its program to south San Diego.

SB Matrix FC will work closely with AYSO United Club’s directors and coaching staff in implementing United’s training plan to enhance the development of players’ skills and technical abilities. The partnership started with a single team: the newly formed South Bay G2002 team, which will have immediate access to the TAGA GOALKEEPER TRAINING ACADEMY as well as entrance to CSL League Cup, Spring Cup, and California Cup.

Polo Aviles, South Bay Matrix FC coach and Technical Program Director, as well as Asst. Coach Nicole Thomas have joined AYSO United as coaches for the Girls 2002 squad, which has been competing in Coast’s Silver Elite & Gold bracket the past 4 years. Coach Aviles will continue serving as Technical Program Director of South Bay Matrix FC.

“We are looking to provide additional options for our teams and coaches,” Coach Aviles said. “Our aim is to provide more opportunities for soccer players, both competitively and recreationally. Our hope is that this relationship in the near future will also include boy’s teams under the AYSO United banner to compete in Coast Soccer League.”

Tony Zermeno, DOC of AYSO United South OC, said he is pleased to welcome South Bay Matrix FC to the club. “They will add another dimension to our club and provide players the opportunity to develop their skills further. Polo and his staff will also add coaching expertise to our program.”

South Bay AYSO has long fielded quality soccer teams, with coaches who have proven that volunteers can and do “make a difference.” South Bay Matrix was developed as the region’s competitive soccer option for players and coaches looking to grow their game. Coach Aviles’ squad has taken the program to yet another level.

“The core of this 2002 girls team won back-to-back championships in the San Diego Development Academy,” Millican said. “They have done all they can in San Diego. The team is the perfect candidate to pilot our partnership under the AYSO United Soccer Club umbrella.”

This new structure will offer three playing options for each division:

  1. CSL – Silver/Silver Elite/Gold & someday Premier for the most competitive teams, which should also increase exposure on a regional and national basis and give players a chance to compete against top clubs. Entrance criteria for this league would be previous SDDA team with a level of success in their respective Flight 1 or 2 bracket.
  2. SDDA – The local premier league, which is the most competitive level in San Diego and gives teams exposure to National Cup. The highest platform for our local competitive teams.
  3. Presidio League – Competitive, which also gives our players a chance to compete in the bracket of their choice, but also gives players just entering the competitive level the chance to see if it is the right fit.
  4. AYSO Extra – A program that offers organized soccer for players who want to play at a more competitive level. Club soccer teams are in place in many parts of the country, but for those who want to play harder and still be a part of AYSO, EXTRA is a perfect starting point before transitioning to Presidio.

U12G Matrix Ready to Make a Statement

Fresh off a dominant performance in its most recent summer tournament, the U12G Matrix South Bay team is looking forward to the start of Presidio League play in September. Coach Hector Romo has his squad mixing impressive footwork and 2015081695145619fundamentals with the tactical know-how necessary for player growth and development. The girls went undefeated in bracket play in the Riptide Summer Classic on the weekend of August 15-16. In the tournament final, the South Bay squad defeated San Diego SC 4-1 to take home the hardware. Congratulations to the players and coaches!

U14G Matrix Elite: Still Tough to Beat!

South Bay AYSO’s GU14 Matrix Elite team fought to the end in each match this weekend in capturing the San Clemente Surf Summer Classic. The South Bay girls finished first in bracket play with two 1-0 matches. Then in the Semi-Final, they won 2-1 so set up a showdown in the final versus Inland Empire Surf. The Matrix Elite squad won in PKs 3-2, defeating an IE Surf team ranked 31st in the State. Matrix Elite also defeated IE Surf during last spring’s State Cup competition.

South Bay’s Matrix Elite team has won consecutive tournaments, part of the team’s preparation for the Fall 2015 San Diego Development Academy season that begins September 12. The teamwork has only increased in recent matches, even as the team has played with a target on its back considering the girls reached the finals of last year’s prestigious State Cup. Coach Polo Aviles said he could not be more proud of his 14 players—a committed and dedicated squad.IMG_0945

“I love these girls, they’ve given me the most precious moment in my coaching career during State Cup, and I’ve been coaching a long time, 20 plus years and counting,” Aviles said. “I need memories like this. They continue to work hard and apply what they have learned in their training sessions.”
