The prospect of a free t-shirt, soccer ball and a hamburger only added to the experience of soccer enthusiasts, as the city of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department hosted a Soccer Expo on Saturday, May 11 with the help of South Bay AYSO/South Bay Matrix. It was quite a day of activities as the soccer skills clinic attracted well over 100 participants. The recreation center also hosted a community yard sale, and South Bay Matrix teams held an inaugural Jog-a-thon at the park. That made for a jam-packed, fun-filled morning. South Bay AYSO’s U5 Jamboree division showed up in force.
Special thanks go out to Luisa Dasis for coordinating the Matrix Jog-a-thon and our concession booths. Volunteer coaches from Matrix for the skills clinic included Diego Terry, Hector Romo, Rogelio Lopez, Santiago Villanueva, Polo Aviles, and several Matrix high school-age players who dedicated their community service hours to helping the younger players.
Thank you to all our participants and volunteers.
